The 2024 NCA Doctoral Honors Seminar (DHS) will be held at the University of Utah from June 4 to June 7. The DHS brings together promising doctoral students and distinguished faculty members from across the discipline and around the nation to discuss current topics in Communication. The theme for this year’s DHS is “Elevating Communication Research.”
Up to 30 students will be chosen to participate based on a brief application narrative and a recommendation from their advisor. Participants will arrive the afternoon of Tuesday, June 4, participate in two full seminar days on the 5th and 6th and then depart mid-day on Friday, June 7. Doctoral students participating in the seminar will be provided campus housing and most meals, as well as be eligible to receive a stipend to offset travel expenses. This year doctoral students are invited to apply with any interests across the discipline to one of three specialty seminar areas, focused on broad methodological approaches. These areas in which students apply will be rhetoric/performance, critical cultural/interpretive, and social science. We are excited to have distinguished mentors in each of the three areas. The rhetoric/performance mentors are Josue David Cisneros (University of Illinois), Michelle Holling (California State University-San Marcos), and Billie Murray (Villanova University). The critical cultural/interpretive mentors are Derek Buescher (University of Puget Sound), Yea-Wen Chen (San Diego State University), and Aisha Durham (University of South Florida). The social science mentors are Leanne Knobloch (University of Illinois), Patricia Moy (University of Washington), and Ronald Rice (University of California-Santa Barbara)
